109th Annual NMPA Convention set for Nov. 9-11
Everything is ready for the convention and Awards Banquet

2017 Convention

The 109th Annual NMPA Convention and Hall of Fame Luncheon will take place on Nov. 9-11.

The Press Association has lined up presenters who are among the best at what they do. David Chavern, president and CEO of News MDavid Chavernedia Alliance is the keynote speaker for the Hall of Fame Luncheon. Those who follow the industry know that since leaving the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2015 to take his position with the leading advocate for the news business know that Chavern has been a vocal supporter of journalists and the journalism business. He is a frequent guest on numerous news shows and has taken to the pages of our nation’s largest newspapers to go after digital companies Google and Facebook over the way they do business.

The Press Association has been able to tap Megan Finnerty of the Arizona Republic’s Storytellers Project to give two presentations. Finnerty not only has experience in the newsroom, but she used her knowledge and creativity to Megan Finnertygenerate revenue for her company. She claims, though, that all she was trying to do was something fun and cool. “If you would have put me in a room and wanted me to come up with revenue generating ideas I would have failed miserably.”

There also will be workshops on human resource issues, how to maximize your sales efforts and a presentation on making classified ads pay off. Reporters and editors may be more interested in workshops on page design tricks or maximizing local coverage. Some great vendors are lining up to offer products that will help you office.

The climax of the event will be the banquet and the presentation of the awards in the Better Newspaper Contest.

This is a convention that has something for everyone who is in the newspaper business, or loves someone who is. You will not want to miss out on the great information and the warm feeling you get being around people who work in our industry.

The convention will be held at the beautiful Tamaya Spa and Resort in Bernalillo. The Press Association was able to secure a greatly reduced room rate of $149 per night. Whether you stay a single night or come for the whole weekend, you will not be disappointed.
